Kieran Williams avslutar sin recension i TLS med orden:
"In his effort to be a model of good faith and good will, Michnik confesses his own lapses of judgement or poor choice of words, and gives credit where deserved to men he would otherwise oppose. Seeking truth in this fair-minded way is much harder than hunting witches; and when writing of the double bind in which the great poet Czeslaw Milosz found himself, denounced by Communists and anti-Communist émigrés alike, Adam Michnik is saying something about his own predicament."
