Varför dricker människan?

I Rogue River Journal. A winter alone, skriver John Daniel:

 

“This would have been a braver expedition if I´d left the wine and whiskey at home. I considered it, but not for long. It´s part of what I am, I rationalized. This is an experiment in solitude, not self-abnegation. “

Och så citerar han Samuel Johnson som fick frågan varför han drack, och som då svarade:

 

”To get rid of myself, to send myself away.”
