Experts at the Albanian Institute for International Studies say the agreement is a welcomed move and could help in added research on Albania’s special relationship with the Jewish people and to counter negative narratives.
TIRANA, Jan. 26 - A bilateral agreement between Albania and Israel to increase cooperation in education was approved in the Council of Ministers’ meeting on Wednesday, according to Education Minister Evis Kushi.
Kushi said the agreement would bring scholarships, academic exchanges and projects for institutions in both states.
"The approval of the agreement between [Albania’s] Council of Ministers and the State of Israel promotes and encourages bilateral cooperation in education, culture and sports,” Kushi said, adding the “agreement promotes the activation of projects between institutions, exchanges among professors, scholarships, and even promote cultural events such as book fairs.”
Experts at the Albanian Institute for International Studies told Tirana Times the approval of the agreement is a welcomed move as there is a strong need to research and publish about Albania’s special relationship with the Jewish people as well as periods in which there has been no research on the matter, such as the communist regime.
The research would also help to counter anti-Semitic narratives that are seeping into Albanian public life, according to AIIS.
